Kermit is healthcare’s first cloud-based spend management application for implantable medical devices (physician preference items). Twenty-three surgical divisions, 140 device manufacturers and over 750,000 products are correlated, tracked, analyzed and managed.

Challenge

The mission of Kermit is to provide insight into the complex pricing process surrounding (PPI) – physician preference items (PPI), which are implantable medical devices. Kermit negotiates pricing to keep costs fair to patients and hospitals. Kermit’s consultative strength comes from having organized, real time data that populates its records.

Kermit scans hundreds of invoices each week – which features billing details that include pricing, product catalogue numbers, part numbers and Kermit’s own classification system.

Kermit needed to have all of this scanned information confirmed, corrected and entered manually by industry-trained data entry specialists with an expertise that meets highly regulated compliance requirements.

Begun in 2015, the Kermit-Coleman relationship continues strong. When Kermit’s work increases, so does the dedicated Coleman team – each member tested for mastery of terminology, regulatory compliance and product/services nomenclature. The data becomes searchable for Kermit – who can then match information with FDA recall feeds and other critical, up-to-date industry information. For instance, if there is a part/product recall, Kermit can search and notify every hospital/patient affected.
