Coleman Data services give Terracon consulting engineers instant access to data – saving time, space and costs
As a result of working with Coleman Data, Terracon purged old documents, retained and scanned historic documents resulting in consultants across 150+ locations having fast access to digitized data.Industry
Terracon is an employee-owned consulting engineering firm specializing in environmental, facilities, geotechnical and materials services.
Business Size
Terracon employs more than 5,000 workers in over 150 offices in all 50 states nationwide – also partnering with U.S. clients to serve their international needs.
Challenge
Terracon’s 150+ offices had retained geotechnical data dating back to the 1940s. Some offices paid costly fees to offsite facilities to store, retrieve and refile data. Other offices stored data on-site, restricting available office space. Because of many conditions – problematic storage space, aging documents, frequent office relocations – Terracon’s highly-valued geotechnical data had been damaged and eroding.
Solution
After a thorough online search, Terracon selected Coleman Data Solution to:
- Prepare saved documents for scanning
- Scan hard copies of historic documents
- Georeference locations of each project
- Conduct internal Quality Assurance and Quality Control reviews
- Purge documents based on their document retention policy
Coleman Data Services has enabled Terracon to permanently capture geotechnical data for more than 250,000 projects nationwide providing our practitioners (engineers and geologists) direct access to the information saving our clients time and money!
Results / Outcome
By converting electronically, Coleman allowed Terracon geologists and engineers company-wide to safely and accurately compile project specific information. This enabled fast access to the spatial data in industry standard formats.
Another result of their partnership with Coleman Data Solutions, Terracon significantly reduced storage costs while making more office space available for other uses.
