# WPM to KPH Calculator

Calculate your Words Per Minute to Keystrokes Per HourEver wonder how many KPH (keystrokes per hour) you type? The more common measure of typing speed has been wpm (words per minute). Sometimes though, your data entry KPH rate is needed, primarily when you are qualifying or searching for a job that involves a lot of this. So we devised this simple WPM to KPH calculator.

Curious about the formula we use?

First – some background. Since CDS provides a lot of data entry services to customers, we have a production based data entry environment where accuracy of the keyed data is of primary importance – then speed. Still, for new operators, we would like to see a minimum skill set, reflected in speed and accuracy.

Our testing and results reflect the environment you would be working in, so our formula for converting WPM to KPH is based on this.

## What is the formula for WPM to KPH?

- WPM – your known current typing words per minute rate
- An average number of characters in typed words (also known as keystrokes), which we set to 5
- 50, as in a 50 minute hour because this is the expected amount of minutes an entry operator would be entering data in a typical workday hour

**This results in the formula:** (wpm*5)*50 = kph

Typical calculations based on this formula:

- 40 wpm = 10,000 kph
- 50 wpm = 12,500 kph
- 60 wpm = 15,000 kph
